Discovery NotesThis phage was found in wet, low-density soil. It was dug from a garden bed found under a staircase.
Naming NotesThe phage forms plaques of an extremely small radius. Dr. Seuss once wrote that "A person's a person no matter how small," and we felt inspired by that. So in our eyes, "A plaque's a plaque no matter how small," hence we named the phage that produced the tiny plaques Horton, after the book Dr. Seuss's quote is from, "Horton Hears a Who".
