Discovery Notes | The sample was collected from a layer below the top surface of a square plot outside my home in Brooklyn, NY. Before collecting my soil, the snow had just melted 24 hours since it had stopped snowing and the ground underneath the sample was frozen. The soil sample collected was frozen and collected through large clumps in an ambient temperature of 1ºC; the soil softened and was moist at room temperature of approximately 22ºC after 4 hours being placed in my home. |
Naming Notes | The name "Junopia" came from a combination of what I would like to name my first child, "Juno", and "-pia" is Latin for "pious" or "reverent." |

Plaque Notes | Possibly two to three different types of plagues were sighted throughout the various plaque assays with sizes of 1.0mm or 0.50mm, but I focused on the 1.0mm plaque throughout the discovery process of Junopia. All of the plaques were circular and clear; no changes in shape or characteristics were sighted throughout the process. Junopia is a siphoviridae with the phage head being an icosahedra and its tail being thin, long, and flexible. |
