| Discovery Notes | The sample was collected on September 9th 2024, at 4:25pm, approximately 6 inches/15.45 cm into the ground. The Soil was moist, and the sample collection site was an Urban setting. Specifically a parking lot median underneath mulch. Phage Particle Measurements: average head diameter = 44.0 nm, average tail length = 215.8 nm (n=6) Note: After a second set of Electron-Micrograph imaging, the average tail length was 189.5nm from 6 phage particles. Conversely, the average capsid radius was 42.1nm from measuring 11 capsids. (11/25/2025). |
| Naming Notes | We named this phage Nichirin after our favorite anime in which the main character's sword was a Nichrin sword. Originally our plaques were weirdly oblong and narrow as they were arranged in a comet formation, which made sense considering a sword is also long and narrow. |

| Annotating Institution | Unknown or unassigned |
| Annotation Status | Not sequenced |
| Plaque Notes | The plaques were 2mm in diameter, turbid and circular. Initially the plaques were oblong due to them taking a comet-like formation. Note: Plaques varied in size from as small 0.5mm to as large as 4mm. However, it averaged out at about 2.3mm after measuring 94 plaques. The plaques themselves are also clear (11/13/2025). |
