| Discovery Notes | The sample was collected from the top surface of my backyard in Brooklyn, New York. The ambient temperature was approximately -4 degrees Celsius and the ground underneath the sample was frozen. The soil sample is very rich in organic matter, moist, and has large clumps that flake when pressure is applied. |
| Naming Notes | When thinking about phage names, I thought about words that started with the letter F since I wanted to mimic the “Ph” sound from “phage.” I had a Figment figurine (from Disney) growing up and the meaning of the word brings back nostalgia so I named my phage Phigment (replacing the “F” with “Ph”). |

| Plaque Notes | Two plaque morphologies were observed; the plaques were 0.50mm or 2.0mm in size but a plaque assay of the two sizes showed they were from the same type of plaque. All the plaques were circular and had clear centers but turbid outer circumferences. Phigment is a siphoviridae with its icosahedral head and long flexible tail. The head-to-tail ratio is about 1 to 3. |
