Discovery Notes | The soil was collected on August 26, 2020, from (33.1374°N, -97.0902°E) in southeastern Denton, Texas. The temperature was about 91°F at about 2 in the afternoon. It was damp and it was a little humid outside since it was about to rain. The location is in the second bed of plants in the garden near some chili plants. I dug the top inch of soil nearest to a chili plant with a plastic fork and placed it in a plastic Ziploc bag. |
Naming Notes | I chose PrincePerseus to be the name of my phage because as much as I love science and the ever-changing nature of it, I like to read about history and mythology as well. By minoring in classical studies I’ve learned that Prince Perseus was the Prince of Argos and he’s famous for slaying the monster Medusa. My analogy is that my phage is like Perseus and it will slay bacteria (Medusa). |

Plaque Notes | In many of the spot testing and plaque assay procedures, there were plaques of various sizes, but most of the plaques had a diameter of 3mm and the plaques that I picked throughout the procedures were 3mm. In many of the plaque assays the borders of the plaques were jagged but some of them were also smooth. The plaques were always clear. |
