Discovery Notes | The area where I collected the sample is a small residential backyard located in a suburban neighborhood. The weather was clear/cloudy, and there hadn’t been any rainfall. The solid at the collection was dry and firm, with a medium brown color. Using my gardening towel, I dug about 2 inches below the surface to retrieve the soil sample, ensuring that I revived any waste such as grass, pebbles, twigs. |
Naming Notes | When I looked at my plate from my direct isolation assay, the plaque on the plate reminded me of my friends cat that had spots. His name was pepper. I love pepper because he was very cute and chubby. |

Plaque Notes | The amplification of the phage lysate resulted in a final titer of 1.1 × 10⁸ PFU/mL (Plate 1, D4). D4 had about 11 plaques, the diameter was about 2mm. My phage exhibited lytic behavior. A phage attaches to a bacterial cell, injects its genetic material, and hijacks the bacterial machinery to produce more phages. This results in the lysis destruction of the host cell, releasing new phage particles to infect other bacteria. |
