Discovery Notes | Soil Conditions - The soil was kind of dry and was hard to break off. The sample was collected from the top surface of the soil. The sample did not seem disturbed. Temperature - The weather was around 85°F (29.4°C). It was very sunny but the location had a lot of trees that were shading the pathway that the soil was collected from. It was raining the day before the soil was collected. Location - I collected the soil sample from Lost River Cave on Sunday, August 25 at 2:08 pm. It was the very top surface of the soil. Naming Notes | "Saranya" is a name from Sanskrit origin meaning protector or defender. I named my phage this because I hope that one day it can be used in the future to treat diseases. This is also named after my sister. |

Lysogeny Notes | My phage was not able to produce a lysogen when a sample of infected cells had been inoculated and cultivated, then plated and treated with the phage lysate. The results of this treatment proved that my phage was not able to produce a lysogen because the infected cells were not immune to further infection from the same phage. |
