Discovery NotesSoytoy was isolated from soil collected from a field of conventionally grown soybeans adjacent to FieldTrip farm in Ottawa, ON. Direct isolation yielded two plaque morphologies, clear and turbid. Soytoy produced clear plaques that were purified, amplified and archived. Soypalloi produced turbid plaques (see the Soypalloi phagesdb entry). Based on the similarity of the RE digests of both phages we suspect Soytoy may be a clear plaque mutant of Soypalloi.
Naming NotesNamed after the soybeans grown at the soil collection site.
