Discovery NotesWe collected our sample that contained phage Sprite from a pile of dirty snow on the campus of GU. The snow was fairly fresh, at most three days old, with dirt and leaves on top of the pile that we also included in the sample. The snow was frozen enough to be in small chunks and not powdery.
Naming NotesSprite comes from the Eternals (2021) movie with the character of the same name. This character was incredibly annoying, just like our phage. Sometimes we would scold our phage, much like someone should have scolded the character. Although this movie was terrible, we still laugh about Sprite.
