Discovery Notes | The soil was somewhat damp. The temperature when we were looking was cold because it was mid winter in Washington state. The soil was chunky, stuck together somewhat, and was very crumbly. We used a plastic spoon to dig up the soil, which took a few tries to get to. There were patches of grass around the area. (Our group was helped by our professor when we had a few soil samples that did not pick up any phages, but this was our process throughout the laboratory.) |
Naming Notes | We created this name for two reasons. One, we wanted to give a tribute to our university, Gonzaga, and have the school acronym somewhere in the name. Because of all the resources and support Gonzaga has provided, we wanted to mention it in the name. Second, "swag" is a fun and playful word that describes sentiments and feelings when you have achieved! It is a cool word that fits how we felt at times in the laboratory. |

Plaque Notes | Our circular plaques were about 2-4mm long. The plaques are mostly clear, but were turbid and murky on the outer circumference. Most of the plaques were off centered from the middle point of the dish and the plaques were close in proximity. |
