Discovery NotesFound east of the Physical Education Building in south western Denton at the University of North Texas. The location was 2 trees south near the base of a bush. I dug the soil about 1-2 inches away from the roots of the bush, collected by a plastic spoon, and placed it in a plastic sandwich bag. The soil was very dry due to dry weather conditions in Denton, Texas as it was 94 degrees Fahrenheit and 40% humidity.
Naming NotesIn the Greek language, the prefix “cry,” derived from “kryos,” stands for the “cold.” In the Latin language, the suffix “nex,” derived from “nexus,” stands for connection. With the combination of the words, it demonstrates my connection with the cold weather (despite the sample being collected during the hot Autumn season) as winter displays connection through it’s Christmas holiday and cheer.
