Discovery NotesThe soil sample Wilshire was found in was collected from a mulch mound at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery. There were a few houses and parking lots about 100 meters from the site of collection. The sample was collected on February 2, 2022 at 21:14. It was slightly drizzling at the time of collection and the ambient temperature was 2 degrees Celsius. The soil consisted of small pieces of mulch and was dark brown. The sample was collected from the bottom of a 33 cm. hole.
Naming NotesI named Wilshire after the 2021 song of the same name by Tyler, the Creator. I have a love for music and I wanted to incorporate that into my academic studies, so that led me to choose that name.

Plaque NotesWilshire is a member of the Siphoviridae family. This is indicated by its ovular capsid and long tail, a feature commonly shared by other phages in the family. Wilshire's capsid is ovular at about 45 nm in length and about 40 nm in width. Its tail is about 220 nm in length. When incubated, it took about 48 hours for plaques to form. These plaques are usually clear which indicates that Wilshire is lytic.
