Discovery NotesThe first thing we did to find our phage was to collect three samples of soil from around our college campus.  These samples went through an enrichment process to amplify the bacteria phages if any at all.  Once the enrichment process was complete, we conducted a spot test to test for the presence of a phage in each of the samples.  Our results demonstrated that our sample obtained from the coordinates 47.66734°N 117.40092°W demonstrated the presence of a phage as the bacteria in a portion of the lawn had been killed and a clearing appeared.  This is the phage that was used throughout the rest of our experiments.
Naming NotesWe decided to name out phage Zagtastic. We wanted to make the name personal and relate to our school because our research represents our school, Gonzaga. We also wanted to name our phage something funny and unique so we twisted the word "zag" into "Zagatastic." We originally had the name Zagalicious however, this name got taken before we were able to input it so we just decided to change the ending of the name.

Plaque NotesZagtastic is cloudy along the edges of the plaques and has less defined edges. This is because Zagtastic may a temperate phage which produces cloudy or turbid plaques. The average size of Zagtastic is 2.9 mm. Zagatastic has plaques with an average of 2.9 mm in width. Zagatastic has about 40 plaques present on the plate. The sizes of Zagtastic vary, producing a variety of sizes all ranging from small to medium.
