Discovery NotesThe soil sample was collected on the University of South Florida (Tampa campus) on September 12 at 8:27 AM. The collection site was along a sidewalk area featuring a metal utility cover labeled “CARSON.” Soil was gathered from within and around the rectangular openings of the cover, where dirt, small plant roots, and bits of grass were visible.
Naming NotesI named my phage Isla because it means “island” in Spanish, representing my connection to Puerto Rico, where I’m from, and my Spanish-speaking background since I was born in Ecuador. The name reflects both parts of my identity and symbolizes connection across different places and cultures.
