Discovery Notes | The soil sample was collected on the University of South Florida (Tampa campus) on September 12 at 8:27 AM. The collection site was along a sidewalk area featuring a metal utility cover labeled “CARSON.” Soil was gathered from within and around the rectangular openings of the cover, where dirt, small plant roots, and bits of grass were visible. |
Naming Notes | I named my phage Isla because it means “island” in Spanish, representing my connection to Puerto Rico, where I’m from, and my Spanish-speaking background since I was born in Ecuador. The name reflects both parts of my identity and symbolizes connection across different places and cultures. |
