Plaque Notes | A single phage with polymorphic plaques had been obtained. The morphologies consist of typical clear plaques with large halos that range from approximately 1mm across to 4mm, the majority falling in between the 2-3mm range. This indicates that the phages are capable of a higher growth rate. Increased growth rate is proportional to increased diffusion, smaller genome, larger burst size, or a more effective absorption rate. The clarity of the plaques establishes that there are lysogens present in that part of the plaque while the turbidity around the edge of the plaque signifies cells that are not fully lysed. This indicates that a temperate phage is present. |
