Discovery NotesThe soil sample was collected outside of the East Liberty Trader Joe's store in Pittsburgh, PA. The soil was collected about 1 inch below the surface near a concrete pathway. The soil was damp and full of organic matter. There were many small weeds and a large bush near the collection site.
Naming NotesThe name for this phage came from a nickname for my brother. Machu Picchu is an Incan citadel in Peru, and it is a nickname my family uses for my younger brother. I chose "Machu" as a shortened version of this nickname.
