| Discovery Notes | The sample was collected at the FGCU Food Forest, where fruits and vegetables are grown. Topsoil was gathered in a 50mL conical tube. The sample was located at the base of a tree, and the dirt collected was moist. |
| Naming Notes | Originally named after the lovable character, Temmie, from the game Undertale. However, it was renamed to merdemon (mer-demon) as a homage to a complicated inside joke between friends. The etymology of merdemon is a combination of the words 'mer-folk' and 'demon.' |
