Discovery NotesI discovered my phage in Lytle, Texas, in my backyard. The soil at the collection site was a sandy, loose dirt, and the area was dry. I collected the sample in early September, about one week after the school year started. During this time, the average temperature was warm, approximately 85–95°F, which is typical for early fall in that region. I used a soil sample to begin the phage isolation process, and the initial plaque showed up on my plate on the first sample.
Naming NotesI chose to name my phage after my last name, “Morillos,” because it represents my personal connection to the project. Naming my phage this way makes it meaningful and unique to me. The name reflects my identity and ties my work in the lab to something personal.
