Discovery NotesOur sample was collected from dark, thick and moist soil near a tree from behind McNamara residence hall on the University of Massachusetts Amherst Campus.
Naming NotesWe were sitting in our lab during one of the waiting periods when a lightbulb went off in our heads. We were thinking of a name that starts with the letter "P". Originally, we thought of Phil but that name was unfortunately already taken. We were thinking of a classic, old-timey name for our phage. We almost decided on Philbertha but didn't really like how that name sounded. Finally, we decided on Philberthium because it sounded unique, like the name of an element on the periodic table.
