Discovery NotesPhage was isolated from an environmental soil sample, which was taken from the compost bin at University of California-Santa Cruz: Life Labs on a warm afternoon. Sample was collected April 9, 2018.
Naming NotesName of the phage "Evol" is a shortened form of evolution, simply came about because the plaques for this phage uniformly changed morphology a handful of times in response to some lab contamination (a plated dilution would have no halos, then halos the next round, then none again a couple passages later, etc.)
Sequencing Information
Sequencing Complete?No
Genome length (bp)Unknown
Character of genome endsUnknown
Fasta file available?No
Characterization

Plaque NotesPlaques are fairly sizable and appear on lawns of M. smegmatis in less than 24 hours, even for plated dilutions as low as 10^-5. In presence of additional unknown bacterial contamination other than M. smegmatis, plaques would develop a halo morphology and retain it for at least a week.
