Discovery NotesAashika Bhat, Megan Cook, Ethan Francilot

Sample was collected from a somewhat shady park with tree canopies casting shadows based on the time of day, which was roughly midday. The surrounding environment was a worn-down tree trunk that seemed to have been cut down and was slowly decomposing. The soil appeared dry since the air was humid regardless of the canopy shade from the trees surrounding. The sample was very loose and silty and a very dry tan shade of colour instead of what you would expect from a prototype of soil. There was a bit of difficulty filtering the soil but it was fairly easy to scoop into the phage buffer tube. The only problem was an abundance of little pebbles and mulch-like tree chips.
