Discovery Notes | Collection site located near one of the benches facing the small stream leading to Duck Pond (on college campus); collection area was comprised of moist soil encircled by small patches of grass; near trees - not really close to stream; climate was slightly humid, temperatures temperate & cool (around 68 degrees Celsius), and terrain was moist & complemented with drops of dew among the grass. |
Naming Notes | Inspiration for the name "Torrexia" came from a past class project that studied a bacteria-derived metabolite called teixobactin - a metabolite that was isolated by a group of researchers from soil-dwelling bacteria - as well as an infamous dinosaur: Tyrannosaurus Rex (T-Rex). |

Plaque Notes | Bacteriophage tends to be slow growing, a strong indication of the species being lysogenic - Plaques tended to be on the small size, but clear (not turbid). Development of plaques greatly increased when it came to purification and titering procedures - i.e. population of plaques started around no more than plaques on culture plates, where purification yielded an exponential increase in the number of plaques (predict around 100 plaques on average per purified culture plate). |
