Discovery NotesThe Webby23 bacteriophage was discovered under a bush in front of Crabtree Hall at the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus in an area where the soil was dark and moist due to fresh snow melting on top of it.
Naming NotesOne lab member wanted to name the phage Webby after Webster Hall at the University of Massachusetts Amherst as that is where she got her sample, but her sample didn't produce phages. However, the name Webby stuck in our group and we added the 23 since we discovered our phage in 2023.
