Discovery NotesThe soil sample Gouda was found in came from sandy, grainy soil by the sidewalk where the soil was overturned. It was taken in front of a dining hall where many people pass daily and the soil was cold and dry. It was taken on a cold day.
Naming NotesOur group of 4 decided to name our phage after a cheese because phages that infect Microbacterium foliorum can also be found in cheese rinds. We had decided on brie as it was our favorite cheese but that was already taken so we decided on Gouda as our second option.
