| Discovery Notes | Found on September 15, 2025, around 1:50 pm on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University. The building where it was found is called Sockwell Hall, where Carlos Muscadine grapes grew. The diversity within the soil sparked curiosity about whether it could produce a phage. The weather on that day was about 25.6 ºC, cloudy, and UV of 4. |
| Naming Notes | The name Nebulanyx is derived from nebula and Nyx. A nebula is an interstellar region where new stars form from dense clouds of gas and dust. Nebula was chosen because it conveys ideas of origin, formation, and emergence—concepts that parallel the discovery process in phage research. Adding Nyx gives the name a personal dimension. As someone named after the mythical bird that rises from the ashes, there is a symbolic connection to the discovery of this phage. The name blends elements of personal identity with the cosmic imagery of a nebula, creating a signature touch. Together, Nebulanyx evokes the sense of emerging from darkness, taking shape, and becoming something new. |
