| Discovery Notes | Collected on 09/10/2020, 75°F, 94% humidity, recent downpour, dew from morning, collected at 5:45am,and near a pond and creek that routinely floods. In area of frequent wildlife including but not limited to fish, birds, squirrels, otters, turtles, snakes, amphibians and reptiles, insects, trees, ferns, lily pads, vines, and other weeds. Area gets little sun, mostly shade due to surrounding trees, soil gathered from ground level to about an inch down, soil was very wet but not muddy, it clumped together well and was relatively easy to scoop up with the provided sticks but was not liquid or very loose. The soil was dark and cold. |
| Naming Notes | Our process of phage purification had a lot of twists and turns, our plaques turned from cloudy to clear, small to medium then back to small, and several experiments had to be redone due to contamination or messed up plates. We both thought of butterflies as a name inspiration due to their dramatic change and dalán-dé (also written as Daelan-dé) means butterfly in Scottish which also roughly translates to God's fire which is cool. |

Counting plaques is easiest by using a marker to count dots but the plaques do not translate well on camera. Occasionally a larger plaque will appear, especially in higher concentrations. This phage grows slower than average and take a high concentration to web. |
