Discovery NotesMatthew Quintero discovered it in September 8th, 2023. The sample was found in soil, about a five inch depth from the surface.
Naming NotesThe name Onika was inspired by the name of popular rap star 'Nicki Minaj'. The phage slowly faded over time until it was considered to be dead, and through investigation we found out that it was being mixed with old bacteria. Therefore, we named it Onika after Nicki Minaj because our phage, like her career, has died out and has made a comeback.
