| Discovery Notes | The soil was collected on 1/12/23 at 1:10 pm. The sample was collected on the bank of the Schuylkill River. The collection site was just beyond the parking lot of the residence Inn by Marriot (191 Washington St, Conshohocken, PA 19428).
Description of the site: enter walking path alng the parking lot, travel down the bank 3 feet from path and 10 feet from river. Soil collected on the bank slope about 2 feet from base of tree.
The soil was dry, and sandy. The weather had been consistently brisk, dry, and cloudy before the date of extraction. The soil was extracted 28.2 cm down. |
| Naming Notes | The soil sample Schuy was isolated from was taken from the bank of the Schuylkill River-- a notable Pennsylvanian landmark. The phage was named after the river, shortening the name to the nickname of "Schuy". |
