Isolation Temperature30°C
GPS Coordinates39.58972 N, 76.28048 W Map
Discovery NotesFound outside of residential house in soil that had been unearthed from approximately 1 foot deep; the area where sample was taken was sprayed with Japanese beetle pesticide a day earlier. Weather was clear, moderate; sample taken midday on 9/12/21 at 28 C.
Naming Notes"Vorvolakos" is a derivative of "Vrykolakas," the Romanized version of the Greek word for "vampire." The phage hijacks bacteria's inner workings or life force in a way to make more of itself--similar to how vampires do.
