Discovery NotesAt 7:25 a.m. CST on August 26, 2025, I, Alba Prince, went to collect a soil sample from the compost bin outside my house in rural Lindale, Texas. After clearing away a layer of decaying fruit and leaves, I discovered dark, moist soil teeming with worms, bugs, larvae, and the remnants of banana peels, watermelon rinds, corn husks, and coffee grounds. Using a plastic spoon, I scooped a hole 4 inches wide and 3 inches deep, extracting 5.00 grams of soil for laboratory analysis. The morning was partly cloudy with an ambient temperature of 22 °C.
Naming NotesRuriko is a Japanese name meaning Lapis Lazuli child. Lapis Lazuli is my favorite gemstone, and I love this Japanese name.
