Discovery NotesThe soil sample was collected from the planter area surrounding John and Florence Thomas Hall beside Thelma H. Gilbert Hall on August 28, 2024 at 8:35AM. Due to the previous storm from the night before, the soil was left squishy and wet. It was a sunny, 26.67° C morning despite the weather from the previous night. After clearing away the bark, a hole around 12 cm wide and 2 cm deep was dug. Lindley then used a plastic spoon to put around three scoops of soil into the plastic bag it weighed around 6.1 g.
Naming NotesThe name Izel comes from Turkish origin and symbolizes individuality and originality, belonging to those regarded as exceptional. The day we began lab and had to collect our soil samples, there was a storm that stopped us from being able to collect our sample. The next morning, as Izel was collected, there was a rainbow in the sky. We felt that this was an incredibly original experience, so we found the name Izel very fitting.
