Detailed Information for Phage Phroglets
Discovery Information
Isolation HostArthrobacter sp. ATCC 21022
Found ByRakshaa Venkatraman
Year Found2024
Location FoundLos Angeles, CA USA
Finding InstitutionUniversity of California, Los Angeles
ProgramScience Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science
From enriched soil sample?Yes
Isolation Temperature30°C
GPS Coordinates34.021904 N, 118.401896 W Map
Discovery NotesDepth from which sample was taken: 3cm
Air temperature if sample collected outdoors (in degrees Celsius): 26.67ºC
Direct Plating or Enrichment: Enrichment
Enrichment protocol used (if any): Host-Enrichment using Arthrobacter sulfureus, Arthrobacter sp., A. atrocyaneus, and Arthrobacter globiformis. The soil sample containing the phage was incubated at 30 degrees Celsius for 15 hours with the host bacteria mixture. The mixture was then plated and incubated for 30 degrees Celsius for 48 hours to elicit plaque formation for observation.
Additional information of interest or note: area was mostly dry soil but the specific area from where collected was wet (evident water spill, trash nearby, lots of litter like water bottles, gum, etc. in area)

Team #1 Name: Phrogs
Team #1 Members: Rakshaa Venkatraman, Emily Ea, Alette Laughton, Bashar Allataifih
Naming NotesNamed in honor of team Phrogs for their love for frogs. The phage also doesn’t have a noticeable tail from TEM imaging, similar to how frogs absorb their tail during metamorphosis.
