Discovery NotesFound under a shady tree on a dry, sunny day in Halpatiokee Park, right off of I-95 in south Florida, surface level soil was collected. Tree roots and small berries were present at the collection site, and the soil was drier than it was moist.
Naming NotesAs a dedication to my mom, the phage is named after her favorite character from the Fantastic Beasts franchise. A Niffler is a magical beast that has a long snout, with fluffy black fur and is attracted to shiny things. This makes a Niffler a great treasure hunter, but beware, as these harmless creatures wreak havoc if set loose indoors.
