Discovery NotesGavriela was collected at 7:53 a.m. CDT on a cool and cloudy Tuesday morning on August 27, 2024, from the LeTourneau University campus in Longview, Texas, on the West side of Thomas Hall. The ambient temperature was 23.9ºC with a humidity level of 83%. A 3-inch hole was dug with a plastic spoon in an area that was shaded from sunlight. The extracted soil sample was very moist, dark, and rich in organic matter.
Naming NotesOur lab group decided to name our bacteriophage "Gavriela" which means "God is my strength" in Hebrew. Gavriela was chosen because the Lord helped us collect a successful sample of soil to isolate our phage from. We were dependent on God's strength to aid us in all of our endeavors throughout this lab as well as carry us through the trials that we encountered when carrying out the complex procedures.
