Discovery NotesThis phage was isolated from a farm in the Northwest province, South Africa. The soil sampling site was selected for its vicinity to livestock. The sample was taken just outside a sheep house, at a site frequently exposed to runoff water used to clean the sheep house. Thus, the soil is enriched with organic matter, nutrients, a diverse bacterial load and presumably, bacteriophages. The nutrient-rich environment and constant microbial input make this site an ideal candidate for isolating phages.
Naming NotesI wanted to choose a word that describes my family, because to me, family is everything. I used the word Galore, meaning "in abundance". This describes my family perfectly: there is always an abundance of love, support and laughter. Each letter in the word also represents a virtue I appreciate most of each family member. The "K" that follows "Galore" is just the first letter of our surname.
