Discovery NotesAt 3:23 PM CDT on August 21, 2025, the soil sample was collected from around a tree behind The Glaske Center for Engineering, Science, and Technology at LeTourneau University. The hole was approximately 6.3 cm deep, and the soil was very moist and squishy. The weather was sunny with a slightly cloudy sky and ambient temperature of 28.3℃. The soil sample was collected by Breeanna A. Brege and Naveyah M. Raukar, who kindly donated a plate with plaques to us for virus isolation and purification.
Naming NotesThe name “OverPar” ties into golf, where scoring over par means you’ve taken more strokes than ideal, and things didn’t go smoothly. It’s a playful nod to our project, which faced plenty of setbacks and obstacles along the way. Just like a tough hole on the course, we kept hitting challenges, so the name reflects both the difficulty and a bit of humor about our less-than-perfect “round.”
