| Discovery Notes | The soil sample was taken from a flower garden outside of Tarble Hall on the Carthage College campus. The flower garden is located directly in front of Tarble's front doors. The soil sample was moist and compact, found in between flowering plants at a depth of approximately 3.8 cm. The temperature was 20 degrees C. |
| Naming Notes | The name Cerasum is the Latin word for 'cherry.' I selected Cerasum for the phages name because after seeing the phage on the electron microscope, I thought it looked like a cherry: containing a long tail (stem) and a circular capsid (cherry). Hence the name Cerasum. |
