| Discovery Notes | Soil sample #29, from which I. Connomayer was collected under the Lamont Bridge on the Smith College campus (coordinates 4218’56’’ N, 7238’27’’ W) between 1:30 PM and 1:35 PM on September 15, 2015. Overall, the campus environment is suburban/rural. The sample was collected from under the bridge, in an area that receives little to no foot traffic. The soil was collected 1 m away from the water in an area with moderate sloping. Sample #29 was collected from 2.5 cm depth in a moist environment in the shade. The ambient temperature at the time was 79F.
The soil sample was collected using a plastic spoon and was transferred to a clean tube. The depth of the soil was evaluated using a plastic ruler. The samples were labelled and brought back to the laboratory for enrichment. Information about the collection was recorded according to the procedure on page 33 of the laboratory manual.
