Phlorence was isolated from an enrichment culture inoculated with a soil sample taken from under a tree in the UCLA Court of Sciences. The sample was collected on October 3, 2012, by another student Ethan Sim.
DNA preparation was performed by Dr. Krisanavane Reddi (UCLA). Assembly was performed by William Villella (UCLA) and confirmed by Dan Russel (University of Pittsburgh).
