Discovery NotesCollected on Monday September 15, 2025 at 3: 15 Pm CDT at LETU from a moist fire ant mound in the grass area about 7 ft from the drain in the area behind the Mechanical Engineering Lab I building between the Glaske Center for Engineering, Science & Technology and the nursing school building. The soil sample was collected using a plastic spoon, spearing the gras slightly and scooping out the soil less than 2 cm deep. The soil was dark and moist, given that the area is at a lower level than other parts of the lawn, and it is near a water sprinkler, and water collects around there as it moves toward the drain. It was sunny with clear skies (1% cloud cover), 34% humidity, and ambient temperature 32.8°C.
Naming NotesThis phage was named in recognition and honor of Dr. Steven D. Mason, the seventh president of LeTourneau University.
