| Naming Notes | Previous phages were named after a brown dog and a red cat. We liked the idea of naming this phage after Blu, the blue parrot from the Disney movie Rio2. Unfortunately the name Blu is too short. It is commonly known as Spix's Macaw and was discovered by the naturalist Johann Baptist von Spix in the early 19th century. So we added Spix. |
