Discovery Notes | I gathered this sample from my dog's pen at 7:16AM on September 12, 2016. I dug down approximately 2.5 inches when gathering my sample. There was minimal direct sunlight in this area, and the ground temperature was 12.2°C. The soil was moist. |
Naming Notes | Since I gathered this sample from my dog's pen, I wanted to name my phage something that reminded me of where I found my sample. My dog is a purebred German Shepherd and was trained to protect our property. Wachhund is German for "guard dog." |

Plaque Notes | My plaques are moderately small and extremely clear on plates, but exhibit faint halos around the clear plaque center. The clear plaque in the center is 1 millimeter in diameter with a turbid halo 2 millimeters in radius surrounding. These halos were only visible out to the 10^-8 dilution. At lower dilutions, the phage appeared to be lytic. As the space between individual plaques increased at higher dilutions, "bull's eyes" could be seen around the clear plaques. Plates were, typically, incubated at 30°C for 48 hours. |
