| Discovery Notes | Sample taken from under a big tree (Common Horsechestnut) which was on an area next to the road behind the Maguire Gallery in the Barnes Arboretum at SJU, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Date of collection 9/1/2025, and time 6:08 PM. A lot of dried out leaves, and sticks on this area. Soil condition: Dry, not very fine-grained. Anni Juusela found this phage from her soil sample #33 through direct isolation. Isabella Moraca and Anni Juusela joined to work on this phage together in the beginning of October 2025. |
| Naming Notes | The name Anma comes from my name Anni and my mother's name Maria. Me and my mom came up with this short name of our names together a while back for something, and it was the first thing that came to my mind when thinking about phage names. It reminds me of my mom who I have shared my excitement of the Phage lab with this semester! Pronounciation: "Un - Mah" |

| Plaque Notes | Average plaque size (diameter) is 1-3 mm. Plaques are clear, but they have ill-defined edges. Plaques have not been consistent with size, there have been both small and big plaques. At some point we thought that there might be two different phages because of the different plaque sizes but after doing multiple rounds of purification we figured that it is just one phage that makes different sized plaques. Appearance otherwise than size has been consistent: circular, clear, but ill-defined edges. |
