Discovery Notes | Sample was taken from a forested area located near a water park. Soil was near water, suggesting that during high waters (such as after a heavy rain), the sample would be submerged. Soil was very moist, but not saturated. It was very smooth and contained a few small roots. Date of collection: 8/28/2016 Time of collection: 4:20 P.M. Depth of collection: 0cm-2.5cm Direction facing during collection: 42° NE Temperature (at time of collection):32°C Weather summery: Precipitation at 15%, humidity at 57%, partly cloudy. |
Naming Notes | Lunahalos has been observed to form three unique plaque morphologies: completely clear, completely turbid, and clear with a turbid ring. "Luna," the Latin word for moon, represents the different phases. "Halos," the Latin term for halo, represents the turbid ring. |
