| Discovery Notes | Prithvi was discovered at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (Westville campus). It was on my journey to the lab for the first day of the KRITH SANTHE Mycobacterial and Genetics course that I noticed a minor embankment on campus. Equipped with an old teaspoon and a plastic zipper bag, I eagerly dug into the semi-moist Cayote brown earth about 5 - 10 cm and gathered the sample - unbeknownst to me that history was being made. |
| Naming Notes | Prithvi is the Sanskrit word for Earth and as such, I found it most appropriate. It is also the name of a Devi (Goddess) in Hinduism and Buddhism. |
